The Celtic centerback duo of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty lifted their first trophy of the club season on Sunday.

Both players started as Celtic defeated rivals Rangers 5-4 in penalty kicks in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup Final at Hampden Park. The two sides played out a 3-3 scoreline after 120 minutes before Brendan Rodgers’ men got the final say in spot kicks.

Carter-Vickers went the distance in the Celtic backline while Trusty was substituted off after 45 minutes.

Nedim Bajrami propelled Rangers in front after 41 minutes before Celtic would fight back after halftime.

Greg Taylor and Daizen Maeda scored four minutes apart to make it 2-1 in the 60th minute.

Mohamed Diomande equalized for Rangers in the 75th minute, continuing a frantic afternoon from Glasgow.

Nicolas-Gerrit Kuhn propelled Celtic in front 3-2 in the 87th minute but Danilo equalized for Rangers only one minute later to force extra time.

Celtic went a perfect 5-from-5 from the penalty spot while Ridvan Yilmaz failed to score in the fourth round.

It marked Celtic’s 22nd League Cup triumph in the club’s history. Carter-Vickers has now won eight trophies with Celtic while Trusty lifted a club trophy for the first time.

Celtic will resume Premiership play on December 22 against Dundee United.
