Chelsea’s women’s side lifted the first of what could be several trophies this season.

Catarina Macario and Chelsea defeated Manchester City 2-1 at Pride Park on Saturday to capture the Women’s League Cup. It marked the second trophy won for Macario since joining Chelsea from Lyon in 2023.

Mayra Ramirez opened the scoring for Chelsea in the eighth minute, giving the Lady Blues a 1-0 lead.

Aoba Fujino equalized for Manchester City after the hour mark but Yui Hasegawa’s own goal 13 minutes later swung the match back into Chelsea’s favor.

Macario started and played 74 minutes in the match. The U.S. women’s national team attacker has tallied seven goals and three assists in all competitions this season.

Chelsea, who leads the WSL by eight points over Arsenal and Manchester United, will also prepare to play Man City three more times in the next two weeks.

The two clubs will square off in the UEFA W Champions League quarterfinals while also meeting in league play. Chelsea also remains in the FA Women’s Cup and will take on Liverpool in the semifinal round this April.
