Chris Richards misses Crystal Palace match through injury

Chris Richards’ lengthy spell of consecutive starts in the Crystal Palace squad came to an unfortunate end Tuesday.

Richards missed Crystal Palace’s trip to Bournemouth due to an injury he suffered in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest. The Eagles proceeded to fall 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

The U.S. men’s national team defender had been a regular contributor for the Eagles throughout the second half of the season, starting each of the last 20 matches in all competitions.

However, his recent injury forced manager Oliver Glasner to shuffle his defense for Tuesday’s trip to the South Coast.

Richards, 24, had made 25 combined appearances to date this season, scoring his first English Premier League goal in the process. The former Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim defender also started in both of the USMNT’s recent CONCACAF Nations League victories over Jamaica and Mexico respectively.

Richards has earned 16 caps to date and is coming off his second international trophy success.

Crystal Palace returns to Selhurst Park on Saturday against reigning league champions Manchester City.
