Coventry City has relied on Haji Wright’s goalscoring abilities since his arrival in 2023, but Frank Lampard’s squad will need to look elsewhere for goals over the next few weeks.

Wright will not be back in action for the Sky Blues until after Christmas, Lampard confirmed Friday. The U.S. men’s national team forward has been out of action since suffering an ankle injury on November 9, which has also ruled him out of international duty under Mauricio Pochettino.

Despite having scored seven of Coventry’s 20 league goals this season, Lampard admitted that the team needs others to step in Wright’s absence.

“Do we expect Haji Wright in the next two or three games? No, because he’s not on the training pitch yet,” Lampard said in his prematch press conference Friday. “I am obviously very keen to get him back as I understand his importance for the squad. He is a big player for us.

“But I just have to work on what we’ve got now,” he added. “We have got talent and we’ve got options. Let’s try and get results and then Haji will be there.”

Coventry City hosts Hull City on Saturday in league play before taking on Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle, and Millwall in its final matches of 2024.

Wright will be a welcomed addition back to the squad after being sidelined for five weeks already.
