Wolfsburg came out on the losing end of Saturday’s road showdown with Werder Bremen, but American fullback/midfielder Kevin Paredes celebrated his first Bundesliga goal in the result. Paredes came off the bench and scored in stoppage time of Wolfsburg’s 2-1 loss to Werder Bremen, continuing a positive start to 2023 for the former D.C. United homegrown. Paredes registered his first Bundesliga assist back on Jan. 21 against Freiburg. Niklas Fullkrug’s brace propelled Werder Bremen to three points, but Wolfsburg went down fighting in the second half. Paredes came on as an 82nd minute substitution and needed only eight minutes to make an impact. His left-footed shot at the top of the Bremen box following a corner kick nestled into the bottom-right corner, cutting the Wolfsburg deficit to 2-1. Although Wolfsburg could not avoid defeat, manager Niko Kovac will be pleased with the 19-year-old’s latest contribution. 19-year-old Wolfsburg and USMNT defender Kevin Paredes scores his first Bundesliga goal! pic.twitter.com/RwdxjMWgdJ— ESPN+ (@ESPNPlus) January 28, 2023 Wolfsburg will aim for a bounce-back performance midweek when it travels to Union Berlin in the Round of 16 of the DFB Poker tournament.
