Barcelona have not made too many big moves over the past two summers, but now back within their salary limit, their chances of being able to act in the market have increased ahead of next summer. One of the positions they are reportedly looking to strengthen is the left-wing spot, and Sporting Director Deco has seen one that has caught his eye.

The Blaugrana were pushed to the very limit by Benfica last week, only winning the match in extemis via a last-minute Raphinha strike. No side has put the Barcelona defence to the sword in quite the same fashion has the Portuguese giants though, the second team to put four past Barcelona this season after Osasuna, through a Vangelis Pavlidis hat-trick and a Ronald Araujo own goal.

One of the key architects of Barcelona's issues was young Norwegian winger Andreas Schjelderup. The 20-year-old formed a dangerous duo with Alvaro Carreras on the left flank, and grabbed an assist, breezing to the by-line and forcing Araujo to put the ball into his own net for Benfica's fourth goal. After 73 minutes, he was brought off with the score at 4-2 to the home side. Sport say that Schjelderup caught the eye of Deco, and he has instructed Barcelona's scouts to begin watching him.

Moving to Benfica in the winter of 2023 for €9m, he spent last season back on loan in Norway with the club he moved from, Nordsjaelland. However Schjelderup has made more inroads into the Benfica team this season, and has made 17 appearances this year, scoring 3 goals and giving 4 assists. Smooth on the ball, pacy and possessing a strong work ethic, he gave Jules Kounde no shortage of issues. He has a €100m release clause, and is represented by Rafaela Pimienta. Barcelona have also been linked to his partner on the left, Carreras.
