Pep Guardiola to miss out England job as FA agree deal with alternative

Former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola will not be taking over as England boss in the near future, or next summer for that matter, as the Football Association have gone for an alternative option. The Manchester City coach was believed to be their top choice, but they have instead agreed terms with ex-Bayern Munich and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

As per Christian Falk and BILD, Tuchel has agreed a contract with the FA to become England manager, with the announcement potentially coming as soon as tomorrow (Wednesday). Guardiola was one of the prime candidates, with his current deal ending in 2025, but it looks as if they have turned their attentions elsewhere.

That would imply that Guardiola could end up extending his deal at City for a tenth season, with the Premier League champions reportedly confident that they can secure a fresh deal for him, despite the departure of Sporting Director Txiki Begiristain. Tuchel was reportedly a candidate for Manchester United and Barcelona before that, but will take his first steps in international management.
