Robert Lewandowski reveals reason for Barcelona improvement – 'The past two, three, four weeks…'

Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski has put their improvement in recent weeks down to more intensity in training in recent weeks, as the Blaugrana find perhaps their best form of the season. Their victory over Atletico Madrid was a first home league defeat of the season for Diego Simeone, and they are the first side to beat them at the Metropolitano in La Liga since they did last year, in January of 2023.

Lewandowski was the star of the show for Barcelona, scoring a brilliant finish on the turn and providing two assists for Joao Felix and Fermin Lopez. He was content with the performance afterwards, as he spoke to DAZN Espana.

"Is it the best game of the season? It could be. I'm not sure. But the most important thing about this is that we played very well from the first minute, with the game under control and three goals on this pitch. A good game. Very happy and very happy not only for the goal, but for the two assists. If we play easier, we play better."

The Blaugrana are now over 400 league minutes without conceding a goal, their best run of the season, and for the third time in five matches, went into the final stages with a comfortable lead.

"I think in the last two, three, four weeks we have changed our training a little, with more intensity. Physically, now I also feel very good. My teammates, the same I believe. We want to take a step forward. We have a couple of weeks now with the international break, we want to take another after that. This moment is very important. We want not only win, but play better."

This of course sparked immediate debate about whether the Blaugrana have not been training hard enough for the rest of the season, but with injuries piling up and a heavy fixture list until mid-February, it's no surprise that they have not been going full pelt in training. Including in this match, Barcelona were without Andreas Christensen, Pedri and Frenkie de Jong through injury, all of whom started in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 against Napoli.
