Spain to fight for gold at 2024 Olympics after comeback victory against Morocco

Morocco 1-2 Spain

For the second successive Olympic Games, Spain will contest the men's final. It wasn't easy for Santi Denia's side in Marseille, but a fantastic comeback victory has secured their place in the gold medal match.

Things got off to a poor start for La Rojita, as Morocco lead inside the first half. Pablo Barrios was adjudged to have fouled Amir Richardson inside the penalty area, which allowed Soufiane Rahimi to fire home from 12 yards.

Spain came out better in the second period, and on 66 minutes, they had their equaliser. A loose ball inside the penalty area broke the way of Fermin Lopez, and the Barcelona midfielder fired home his fourth goal of the tournament to bring the score to 1-1.

With five minutes remaining, Spain found a winner – and it came from an unlikely source. Fermin slipped the ball into Juanlu Sanchez, and the Sevilla defender fired home to complete the comeback in fine style.

Spain will face either France or Egypt in the gold medal match on Friday evening, with the second semi-final getting underway later on Monday.
