Bruno Guimaraes agrees long-term Newcastle contract but fans worried about release clause

Bruno Guimaraes has agreed to a new five-year contract at Newcastle – but there are concerns over the release clause.
The Brazil international has been one of the first names on the teamsheet since signing from Lyon in the January transfer window of 2022.
In 18 months, the 25-year-old has already made 63 appearances, scoring ten goals and assisting six and Eddie Howe has been desperate to tie him down to a new deal.
An, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Guimaraes has agreed to a new contract at Newcastle that will see him stay at the club until 2028.
Or at least, that is unless another club triggers his release clause, which is reported to be worth around £100million.
With players such as Declan Rice, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo all reaching fees higher than that total over the last two transfer windows, it has made some Newcastle fans nervous.
One fan said: “£100m release clause is too low.”
Another wrote: “Only £100m?? That’s [Chelsea owner Todd] Boehly’s lunch money.”
A third put: “Bruno Guimaraes loves the club but also there is a £100m release clause in there?”
While this fan said: “He’s plotting his exit.”
And another tweeted: “So committed to the club that he had a release clause inserted into his contract. Angling for a move no doubt.”
Real Madrid were one of the clubs most interested in Guimaraes in the summer as they looked to bolster their midfield.
That was despite the fact they signed Jude Bellingham, who has taken to life at the Bernabeu immediately.
But with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the end of their careers, Los Blancos were looking for potential long-term replacements.
Guimaraes had a stunning campaign last season as Newcastle finished fourth in the Premier League.
It saw the Magpies qualify for the Champions League, a competition they have not played in for 20 years.
They made their return to the Champions League on Tuesday evening when they played AC Milan in a 0-0 draw at the San Siro.
