Former Manchester United defender Chris Smalling ‘hands in transfer request’ at Roma amid interest from Juventus, Inter Milan and Tottenham

Chris Smalling has reportedly handed in a transfer request at Roma. The 33-year-old initially signed for Jose Mourinho’s side on loan from Manchester United in 2019. Smalling could be on his way out of RomaGetty Smalling’s move to the Italian capital was then made permanent the following year. Having been a bench warmer in his final years at Old Trafford, Smalling has enjoyed a career renaissance in Italy. However, it seems as though the centre-back’s time at the Stadio Olimpico may be coming to an end. As reported by Tuttomercatoweb, Smalling has asked to leave the club. His current deal at Roma runs until the summer, but he is now unlikely to extend his stay with the club yet to approach him over signing an extension. There is a chance he could leave before the end of the January transfer window but, if not, then a departure will take place at the end of the season.
