Gary Neville's comments over Manchester United are 'absurd' and 'ridiculous' – Tottenham are just a better team

Manchester United legend Gary Neville should be embarrassed by his over the top assessment following his beloved side’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham.

That’s the view of ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan, who insists the Sky Sports pundit’s comments were ‘absurd’ and ‘ridiculous’.

Neville was left seething at the Red Devils’ display against Spurs, which has left United languishing in 12th place having lost half of their six Premier League matches this term.

He said after the full-time whistle: “The big story today is in that first half.

“You can't say it came from nowhere because Manchester United have been inconsistent all season.

“But they have chosen to put in their very worst performance, their very worst possible showing.

"It was an absolutely disgusting performance in that first half in effort, quality, everything you want in a football team.

“And there are going to be questions to answer for that group (of players) and the manager in the next week."

talkSPORT co-host Jordan has since slammed Neville’s heated reaction, insisting Erik ten Hag‘s men simply came up against a Spurs side bang in form.

Speaking on the White and Jordan show, he said: “It’s interesting, isn’t it?

“People get very critical, our agenda apparently in this studio is to constantly berate Ten Hag.

“Yet I listen to the commentary from Gary Neville, and the language that is being used is absurd.

“It’s not a disgusting performance, it’s a poor performance.

“But when you’ve got Manchester United people that are the first ones to get very prickly whenever if anybody else says anything about Man United, going in full tilt on the nature of the performance.

“It was a poor performance against a very good Tottenham side, it wasn’t disgusting, it wasn’t an abhorration… it’s ridiculous.”

Chiming in, Arsenal Invincible Martin Keown stated: “You can be disgusted by the performance.

“But it wasn’t a disgusting performance.”

United’s defeat to Spurs led to many fans calling for Ten Hag’s sacking – just months after he signed a new contract at Old Trafford having guided the club to FA Cup glory.

But talkSPORT understands the Dutchman’s immediate future is not in jeopardy and is safe at least for the next two games.

A potentially tricky away clash at Porto in the Europa League is next up for United on Thursday night, live on talkSPORT.

And they then travel to the Midlands to face Aston Villa on Sunday in their last clash before the October international break.
