Harry Kane’s Nike boot deal ‘on hold’ due to Erling Haaland ‘fascination’, even though Man City striker isn’t playing at World Cup

Harry Kane is reportedly being forced to wait on a new boot deal amid Manchester City’s striker Erling Haaland’s impact on the Premier League. The England captain and Tottenham striker has been contracted to Nike in the past and should renew his current deal after the World Cup finals in November, which is a major marketing event for football brands. Kane will be hoping that his can guide England to glory this winter and is also looking to scoop his second successive World Cup Golden Bootgetty But he’s reportedly being made to wait for his boot deal by Haalandgetty But the Daily Telegraph reports the major brands are prioritising a move for Haaland, despite the fact his native Norway aren’t competing in Qatar, putting any deal for Kane ‘on hold’. The report adds the 22-year-old is the subject of a bidding war to get him under contract is the boot manufacturers’ most sought-after player and they are planning their budgets accordingly to try to get him on board. Kane, who won the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup, has not been picked up by any of Nike’s rivals, including adidas, Puma and New Balance. The boot deal is lucrative only for the highest-profile players with even the top stars earning sums significantly more than their club wages. But the most marketable names have always commanded the biggest deal and Haaland‘s impact this season – the City forward has already scored 14 goals in all competitions this season – and the ‘general fascination’ around the player make him a major asset in the industry. Haaland’s deal with Nike has expired and has thus worn different brands this term. It’s understood he usually wears Nike boots, but he has also been seen wearing adidas and Puma boots.
