Alisson Becker is in a race against time to be fit for Liverpool’s game against Wolves this weekend.
The Brazil international played the Reds’ win over AC Milan in the Champions League but then missed the Premier League victory over Bournemouth due to a muscle complaint.
The injury isn’t thought to be serious, but he’s still doubtful for the clash at Molineux.
Will Alisson Becker be fit to face Wolves?
Arne Slot believes that Alisson stands a chance of playing the Reds’ next Premier League game.
However, the Carabao Cup third-round tie against West Ham, live on talkSPORT 2, comes to soon for the Brazilian.
Alisson posted a picture on Instagram on Saturday, showing him with a special device that aids with muscle recovery.
This prompted fears that he could have picked up a serious injury, but it should be noted this piece of equipment is used by many athletes at all stages of rehabilitation.
Reds supporters can also be encouraged by Slot’s words ahead of the Hammers game.
When asked about Alisson, he said: "Alisson is getting there, but I think this game is coming just a bit too early, and we are looking at the weekend against Wolves, but it's going to be tight so let's see if he manages to be there.
"But he will not be there tomorrow, so Caoimhin will be in goal tomorrow, that's the one thing I know for sure at this moment.”
However, should he not make the game at the weekend, Caoimhin Kelleher is more than good enough.
The Republic of Ireland international has clearly expressed his desire to be a number one at another Premier League club.
But until that happens, he has to take these sorts of opportunities with both hands.
Certainly, he’s impressed his manager.
Speaking about Kelleher, Slot said: "I wasn't surprised at all with his performance [against Bournemouth] because he was very good in pre-season already, and he was very good with his national team as well.
"It's a good thing for us that we have two quality players, and we forget the third one in this position because in almost every position we have two, but in goalkeepers, we have got three or four and our third one is also a really good goalkeeper. So it's a good thing for us.
"Like you saw, we need to have a strong squad because you can pick up injuries or whatever can happen. So, it was good to see and pleasing to see that he kept a clean sheet – not in a way that he had nothing to do, he had to act a few times, and he acted really well."
Last season, Alisson missed 15 games due to injury, but there is no indication he’ll be out for anywhere near as long this time.
If he doesn’t make the Wolves game, Liverpool‘s Champions League tie against Bologna or top-flight clash against Crystal Palace look to be realistic returns.
