Manchester United fans have reacted angrily to the news Darren Fletcher will remain on the club’s coaching staff.

The former midfielder retains his technical position at Old Trafford following the arrival of Ruben Amorim.

It comes despite the Red Devils announcing Ruud van Nistelrooy’s departure.

Van Nistelrooy had returned to United in the summer as an assistant to Erik ten Hag before serving as interim boss for the last four matches.

Meanwhile, Fletcher was replaced as technical director by Jason Wilcox earlier this year.

He has since served as a technical coach, acting as a link between the first-team and academy.

Reacting to the news on social media, one fan wrote: “How does he keep surviving?”

Another added: “How's he survived another manager? Should have kept Ruud over him.”

A third supporter also commented: “Terminate Ruud but keep Fletcher…”

Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Pieter Morel have also left United following Amorim’s arrival.

The incoming boss was pictured at the training ground on Monday after leaving Sporting.

He is expected to take training for the first time next week before the trip to Ipswich on November 24.

Amorim’s coaching team has yet to be confirmed by the club, however.

As for Fletcher, he returned to the Red Devils in 2020 after hanging up his boots, initially working in the academy before stepping into an assistant role under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The 40-year-old previously spent 15 years at Old Trafford as a player between 2000 and 2015.

During that time he scored 24 goals from midfield in 342 appearances and won 15 trophies including the Champions League and five Premier League titles.

His twin sons Jack and Tyler are both currently part of United’s under-18 side as well.
