However Ugarte, who was also linked with Chelsea last summer, is now the subject of interest from the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old has made 37 appearances for PSG with whom he won Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions.

Ugarte is also a regular international with Uruguay and started in their opening Copa America 3-1 win against Panama.

The defensive midfielder has four years left on his contract at PSG but could be on course to join the Premier League.

United are set for their third season under Erik ten Hag, who will stay put for next season despite intense speculation over his future.

Their midfield could certainly be an area of improvement this summer following an underwhelming season despite FA Cup victory.

Sofyan Amrabat is due to return to Fiorentina after his loan spell but United reported have the option of a permanent t £21.4million move.

Fiorentina sporting director Daniele Prade revealed that he thinks the Moroccan wants to stay in the Premier League, although nothing has yet been decided.

Casemiro’s future at Old Trafford has also been speculated as the Brazilian has two years left on his current deal.

The former Real Madrid man has been heavily linked with Saudi Pro League sides Al Nassr and Al Hilal, and the Saudis value him at around £25million.

Bruno Fernandes has also emerged as a potential signing for Saudi clubs but it’s unlikely a deal will happen this summer.

Man United still have other players including Mason Mount, Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen on their books in the midfield, as well as breakthrough youngster Kobbie Mainoo.
