Manchester United star Antony has been mocked by the unlikeliest of candidates – an NFL team.
The Brazilian arrived at Manchester United in August 2022 for a whopping £84million from Ajax.
However, Antony has largely struggled to live up to his lofty price tag with just 11 goals and five assists to his name from 82 appearances for the Red Devils.
Given his lack of goal contributions, coupled with the hefty transfer fee, Antony has unfortunately been a figure of ridicule among football fans on social media.
But now a two-time Super Bowl winning franchise has gotten in on the act in a rather odd post on TikTok.
The Indianapolis Colts posted a three-picture carousel, with the first depicting quarterback Anthony Richardson along with the caption, “Leicester City had the greatest underdog story…”, evidently in reference to the Foxes’ thrilling 2015-16 Premier League triumph.
The second slide depicts running back Jonathan Taylor with a ball in hand, with the caption reading, “No, Morocco did,” and alludes to the Atlas Lions’ epic run to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
But the third slide is where things get a little odd.
It is a picture of Antony’s head, with his left eyebrow raised, superimposed on Lionel Messi’s body when the Argentinian superstar won the Ballon d’Or.
The post also has the caption, “1 nomination, 1 trophy”, along with three fire emojis.
Since the clip was uploaded on Tuesday, it has amassed over 600,000 views.
Perhaps that should not come as a massive surprise given the Colts boast a TikTok following of 1.1 million.
Richardson himself is hoping for a season of redemption after his 2023 campaign was curtailed by injury.
The Florida Panthers product featured in just four games before he sustained an AC joint sprain and was initially set to miss one to two months.
However, Richardson was later ruled out for the entire season in what was a bitter blow for the Colts given they selected him with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 Draft.
