Marc Cucurella has revealed he was quick to rub salt in the wounds of his English teammates after Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.

La Roja defeated England 2-1 in the final in Berlin, with the Chelsea star providing the crucial assist for Mikel Oyarzabal’s winning goal.

He was not the only Blue to prove crucial in the game as Cucurella’s very own Chelsea teammate Cole Palmer had kept England in the game with an equaliser with less than 20 minutes to go.

But it ultimately came to nothing for the Three Lions.

And Palmer was not the only one of Cucurella‘s Chelsea teammates who had his heart broken that day, with Conor Gallagher also having been a Blue at the time.

Spain lifted the Euro trophy yet again, and Cucurella earned himself a place in the Team of the Tournament thanks to his excellent defensive performances.

And the 26-year-old recently joined Spanish television programme La Revuelta where he opened up to host David Broncano about the aftermath of his Euro success.

Returning to Enzo Maresca‘s Chelsea ahead of the new Premier League season, Cucurella told the Spanish audience how he had a little fun at the expense of his English teammates when he had arrived back in Cobham.

"We asked for a replica of the cup and I said to bring it to where we train,” he began. “And I had it sent to the (Chelsea) training ground.

“And I opened it and said 'I don’t know what this is!”

His story sent Brancano and the studio audience into floods of laughter.

“A very good idea,” Brancano said between chuckles. ” ‘Send it to me here. Chelsea, I don’t know what it is!’ “

Cucurella had a cheeky grin on his face as he explained how he had jibed at his teammates

Cucurella then added that he had tried to further wind up his English teammates by pretending not to recognise the parcel when it arrived.

"(I said) I’ve got a package – but I hadn’t ordered anything!" he explained, showing how he had feigned shock as he opened the trophy.

Brancano could barely catch his breath for laughing but he too joined in with the impressions, pretending to be Cucurella.

"Let’s see, what is this?” he said in mock disbelief. “The Euro Cup in your f**** face!"

It is not the first time that Cucurella has been something of a joker.

His comments come just days after he joked that referees were being harsher on him since his European success.

Speaking to Spanish publication COPE, he was asked about whether he believes he is facing more attention from officials and why he thinks he is getting more negativity from fans.

“Well, I’ve already been suspended for five yellow cards and I’ve committed few fouls,” he said. “They’re going after me a bit.

“They jump on me quickly, especially when we play away. It’s normal, we won, I was involved in the goal, I’m playing at their home.

“It’s normal, they’re hurt.”

Speaking seriously, Cucurella also admitted he certainly does not underestimate the impact the tournament has had on his life, explaining it was something that got him through the difficult times.

“In the end you always have a bad day and in the end you say, well, I won the Euros, so it’s quickly resolved,” he added.

“In the end it’s still normal, your day to day life, but it’s true, you have more impact, many more people know you, in the end being European champion I think is a historic thing and in the end you’re always going to take it with you.”
