Bournemouth player on how his Barcelona transfer plan didn't exactly work out

Justin Kluivert is perhaps having the best season of his career so far, and certainly his best time at Bournemouth.
The 25-year-old has scored 13 goals and added seven assists so far this season, and has been an important squad member for manager Andoni Iraola. Bournemouth are currently tenth in the Premier League table and still have hopes of qualifying for a European competition this season.
That will require a good end to the campaign from the Cherries and almost certainly an extra batch of goals from Kluivert.
He’s currently away with the Dutch national squad and has been speaking to the media in the Netherlands.
De Telegraaf were one of those able to talk with the Bournemouth player this morning, and the chat turned to perceived poor transfer decisions of the past as Kluivert aimed to emulate his father and play for Barcelona.
Asked why he left Ajax at just 19 to move to AS Roma, a transfer that didn’t really work out for him, Kluivert said it was all part of a bigger plan: “I thought that would be the quickest way to get to Barcelona, but of course it’s not that easy.”
Roma sent him on a series of loans, something which didn’t really work out for the player: “Always a new club, competition and coach. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.”
The move to Bournemouth provided stability and success: “That was finally a good choice. My coach Andoni Iraola thought I shouldn’t play on the wings but behind the striker. And I continued playing there. The funny thing is that technical director Marc Overmars at Ajax also said that I would play as a ‘ten’.”
