Brys: AFCON 2025 holds no fear for Cameroon

Cameroon head coach Marc Brys believes his team has the right mix of experience and youth to fearlessly challenge for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title.
The draw for the 35th edition of the African showpiece took place in Rabat on Monday and paired the Indomitable Lions with defending champions Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mozambique in Group F.
Brys’ side will rekindle a rivalry with the Elephants dating back to 1970 when they met at the tournament for the first time before going on to face one another on a further seven occasions.
Their most recent clash at AFCON came during the group stages in 2015 when Cote d’Ivoire ran out narrow 1-0 victors, while the five-time African champions were eliminated in the round of 16 at the last tournament.
Brys was handed the reins of the national team one month after Rigobert Song got sacked in February 2024 and the Belgian tactician insists Cameroon head to Morocco at the end of the year with no fear of any team.
“We must be careful, stay true to our playing philosophy, add passion and the enthusiasm common to the Cameroonian people,” Brys said after the AFCON 2025 draw.
“We will be ready. We are not afraid of any team.”
Commenting on the match-up with Ivory Coast, he added: “I am aware of the historical rivalry between the two countries. The only thing is to stay focused and be ourselves. Of course, they won the last AFCON, but we will be ready for the match.
“I have a team that combines a lot of experience and youth. It is a good mix. We must remain united and motivated. The biggest opponent will be ourselves. We must remain disciplined, motivated, and fearless.”
