Citizens 'table first offer' for Marmoush

Manchester City have reportedly stepped up their interest in Omar Marmoush by making an official offer for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.

The Citizens opted not to bring in a replacement for Julian Alvarez after he was sold to Atletico Madrid for a reported €95 million in August, leaving Erling Haaland to shoulder the burden in attack.

Pep Guardiola’s side have endured a disappointing season and recorded just three wins from their last 15 matches in all competitions as injuries heavily impacted their performances.

Haaland has featured in every match for City in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League, with Guardiola having little choice but to start the Norwegian striker in all 26 games due to a lack of options up front.

However, the English champions are believed to be looking for back-up to their talisman and have set their sights on Marmoush, who is enjoying a fine campaign with the Eagles.

The Egypt international has contributed 13 goals and eight assists in the Bundesliga this term and is just one behind top scorer Harry Kane in the race for the Kicker-Torjagerkanone trophy.

A January move for Marmoush seems unlikely though, as the Hesse outfit could struggle to find a suitable replacement for their star man this month.

City would have to fork out upwards of €60m to acquire his services as the North African is under contract at Deutsche Bank Park until June 2027.
