De Reuck set for loan move to Israel

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rushine De Reuck is hoping to revive his Bafana Bafana career with a loan move to Maccabi Petah Tikva until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old centre-back, who can also operate on the right side of defence, has fallen down the pecking order at Chloorkop, where competition for places is fierce.

De Reuck has only managed 11 appearances across all competitions in the last 18 months and started just twice in the Betway Premiership since Miguel Cardoso took over as head coach.

The former Maritzburg United man had been a regular in the national team under Hugo Broos initially, but he hasn’t featured for South Africa since November 2022.

Cardoso said in his press conference on Thursday ahead of Masandawana’s Nedbank Cup clash with Sibanye Golden Stars that they are looking to offload fringe players overseas in a bid to give them regular game-time elsewhere.

“We hold on to players because we feel at times that maybe we are not able to find solutions for them in the PSL, not because we don’t care,” the Portuguese tactician told the press.

“You will see that in the coming months we will work at resolving this and even maybe move some of them to Europe so they can market the club.”

SABC Sport confirmed on Saturday that De Reuck is set to move to Israel with Maccabi Petah Tikva, who will review his deal at the end of the current campaign.
