Done Deal: AFCON winner leaves Alger for French club

Algeria international Andy Delort has returned to France after agreeing to rejoin Ligue 1 outfit Montpellier HSC.

The experienced forward has signed for La Paillade on loan with an option to buy from Algerian Ligue 1 giants MC Alger.

Delort, who was part of Algeria’s 2019 AFCON winning squad, explained why he has rejoined Montpellier.

"I know that I disappointed a lot of people following my departure, and I have regrets," he said.

"I never cheated on the pitch, I was always determined, and I always showed the rage that I had. I think I always gave my all,

“And today, I am here hoping to bring everything I can bring on the pitch, to try to succeed in this mission which is going to be complicated, but I think that with this club, we can do it."

During his first stint with Montpellier, Delort played 106 matches scoring 47 goals and providing 21 assists between 2018, and 2022.

The 33-year-old has two goals in 15 matches for Algeria.
