Nigerian giants Enyimba have acted to try and turn around their torrid season by hiring a new coach, Stanley Eguma, and signing veteran striker Brown Ideye.
The People's Elephants have struggled both in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and the CAF Confederation Cup, where they are bottom of Group D after failing to win any of their first three matches.
Ahead of a clash against Mozambique's Black Bulls in Uyo on Sunday 5 January, Enyimba announced the arrivals of both Eguma and Ideye.
The former replaces Yemi Olarenwaju, and returns to the club where he served as an assistant coach during Enyimba's CAF Champions League triumph in 2004.
"I'm returning to familiar territory," Eguma said during his presentation, as quoted by CAF Online. I am confident that we can steer this great club back to where it belongs."
The 64-year-old boasts an impressive track record, having won multiple titles with Dolphins, now known as Rivers United.
Ideye, meanwhile, joins the Aba-based club on a short-term deal. The 36-year-old has represented the likes of Sochaux, Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, Malaga and Olympiacos, has 28 Super Eagles caps to his name, and will be returning to Nigerian domestic football for the first time since leaving Ocean Boys in 2007.
"His experience will help address our goal-scoring challenges and inspire our younger players to improve their performance," Enyimba’s sports director, Ifeanyi Ekwueme, is quoted by CAF Online.
