Frank: Mbeumo's goal at Tottenham was planned

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has revealed that Bryan Mbeumo’s early goal at Tottenham on Saturday is something that they plan for.

The Cameroon international rippled the back of the net after just 22 seconds with a stunning volley to score the joint-fastest goal in the Premier League this season.

Mbeumo shares the feat with Bees team-mate Yoane Wissa, who opened the scoring against Manchester City at exactly the same time one week prior, although it remarkably ranks as only the 27th fastest goal in Premier League history.

Both goals started with a long ball from goalkeeper Mark Flekken and Frank admitted the West Londoners treat the kick-off like a set-piece where they try to manipulate the situation in their favour.

“Of course, it’s one of the more difficult to score from but we see it as a set-play situation we can set up and control as much as possible,” the Dane said.

“We work on the kick-offs. Some of it is the ball forward but also what you do on the second balls and where you position yourselves after that.”

Mbeumo has enjoyed a blistering start to the campaign, bagging four goals in his first five games to soften the departure of Ivan Toney to Al-Ahli last month.
