Ghana's U-15 girls' team, the Black Damsels, captured the 2025 African Schools Football Championship title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Uganda on Saturday, April 26, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
Goals from Belinda Kpentey and Daniella Abass sealed the win for the hosts, who completed a remarkable tournament run. Ghana entered the final unbeaten, having dispatched Morocco, Benin, and Malawi in the group stage before knocking out defending champions South Africa in the semifinals.
Uganda, meanwhile, booked their spot in the final after a hard-fought win over Morocco in their own semifinal clash.
The match could have started poorly for Ghana after goalkeeper Precious committed a costly error early on, but Uganda failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
From that moment, the Black Damsels took control, with Daniella Abass and Hajara Adam threatening the Ugandan defense on several occasions. However, the first half ended goalless.
The second half saw Ghana step up their attacking game. Belinda Kpentey opened the scoring after excellent work from Christiana Ashiaku, who won a loose ball, dribbled past defenders, and delivered a perfect assist for Kpentey to finish.
Ghana doubled their lead shortly after, with Daniella Abass making a superb solo run into the box before calmly slotting the ball past the Ugandan goalkeeper.
Although Uganda pushed for a comeback in the closing stages, Ghana's defense held firm to secure a historic triumph. The victory is even sweeter considering it was Ghana's debut appearance in the competition, making their championship win a truly memorable feat.
