Amine Gouiri is hoping to get his career back on track at Marseille after joining them from Ligue 1 rivals Rennes on Friday.
The Algeria international opted to leave the Red and Blacks after struggling to establish himself as a first-team regular under Jorge Sampaoli, who was ultimately sacked on Thursday.
Gouiri scored on his last outing for the club in a 3-2 defeat at Monaco on January 25 and departs with a record of 31 goals in 103 appearances across all competitions at Roazhon Park.
The 24-year-old striker has penned a deal with Les Phoceens running through to the end of the 2028-29 season and becomes their second signing of the January transfer window after Luiz Felipe.
L’OM manager Roberto De Zerbi is relishing the prospect of working with the Lyon youth product and highlighted his ability to play in any position up front.
“He’s a strong player who could be useful, but he’s still very young. It would be a major purchase,” De Zerbi said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Les Gones.
“He’s a versatile player who can play as a centre-forward, just like when he started his career. He’s a player I’ve known quite well for a long time. He can play in every attacking role, in every position.”
