Kano Pillars and Enyimba fined for refereeing remarks

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Kano Pillars and Enyimba for criticising the performance of the match officials during their respective games on matchday 9.

The Peoples’ Elephant beat Ikorodu City 2-1 at the Enyimba International Stadium on Sunday, with Moses Adiukwu scoring a dramatic stoppage-time winner after Toyeeb Ajeyigbe had equalised two minutes earlier.

However, Enyimba made remarks about the refereeing after the match which the NPFL took exception to, charging the club for bringing the game into disrepute and fining them N1 million.

Sai Masu Gida were also penalised for comments made by Ahmed Musa after their 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium, where Anas Yusuf scored a controversial winner in the 41st minute.

Musa claimed that poor decision-making from the match officials is “killing the players’ morale” and “doesn’t reflect a serious league.”

Kano Pillars were penalised N1 million for Musa’s remarks and another N1 million for failing to maintain proper conduct during the encounter in Lafia.

“Enyimba have been fined N1 million for misconduct capable of bringing the game to disrepute. The club have also been warned to desist from similar act in future and advised to use appropriate channels to make their complaints as a recurrence will lead to stiffer sanctions,” read a statement from the NPFL.

“Kano Pillars have further been issued a warning on publishing inflammatory statements in future and advised to use appropriate channels to register their complaints as a recurrence will lead to weightier sanctions.”
