Klopp: Salah so important to Liverpool

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his hope that Mohamed Salah will extend his stay at Anfield as speculation continues to mount over his future.

The Egypt international has entered the final six months of his contract on Merseyside and is free to speak to clubs outside England about a potential transfer for nothing in the off-season.

Rumours of a switch to the Saudi Po League refuse to go away, while Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with a move for Salah as they are one of the few clubs that can rival the financial power of the Middle East.

Speaking at his unveiling as Red Bulls’ Global Head of Soccer on Tuesday, Klopp gave his view on the situation surrounding the 32-year-old winger, who scored the majority of his 232 goals under the German.

“I hope he stays,” Klopp said of Salah in the press conference held by Red Bull. ‘That’s the biggest striker LFC had in modern times. Obviously they had other good strikers, really good strikers.

“But fantastic player, fantastic human being, outstanding athlete, best ambassador [Egypt] could have, fantastic really pretty much in all departments. So I hope he will stay at Liverpool.”

Salah recently set a new Premier League record of scoring and assisting in 37 different top-flight matches and his 18 goals this season sees him leading Manchester City’s Erling Haaland by two in the race for the Golden Boot.
