Kuffour slams Carragher's AFCON comments, defends african football

Former Ghana international Samuel Osei Kuffour has responded to Jamie Carragher's negative comments about the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), highlighting the significance of African players in Europe.

Kuffour has won the UEFA Champions League with Bayern Munich, and he has expressed how disappointed he is in Carragher's comments, saying: “Carragher should be ashamed of himself… He doesn’t respect us.”

The former AS Roma centre-back emphasised how impressive certain African stars have been in the Premier League in particular, thus questioning Carragher's own achievements.

“Did he win the Premier League during his time?” Kuffour asked as per Ghana Soccer Net.

Kuffour expressed his regret at not winning the AFCON title during his 54-cap international career with Ghana from 1993 to 2006.

“Some of us, including me, never got the chance to win the AFCON. It kills me every day because there is nothing that I can show to my children.”

Kuffour recognised the intense competition in the tournament, praising the strength, skill, and tactical awareness of African teams.

“You can never underrate Ghana, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria whenever they play each other,” he added.
