Lookman: It wasn't my best performance

Ademola Lookman gave a modest assessment of his performance in the UFA Champions League on Wednesday after he helped Atalanta to a 3-0 victory over Shakhtar Donetsk in Gelsenkirchen.

The Nigeria international set up Berat Djimsiti for the opening goal on 21 minutes before getting on the scoresheet himself in the final minute of the first half at the Veltins Arena.

Lookman was a whisker away from adding another goal when he struck the woodwork and his efforts were rewarded with the Man of the Match accolade.

Despite being happy to score his first-ever goal in Europe’s elite club competition, the 26-year-old striker played down his match-winning display against the Miners.

“It wasn’t my best performance, but tonight it was essential to take the three points after the 0-0 draw with Arsenal,” he said after the game.

“In Europe, we have a plus, we are on another level. An excellent team performance seasoned with personal happiness for the goal.”

Lookman will be licking his lips in anticipation of the clash with Celtic on October 23, having seen the Scottish giants humbled 7-1 by Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
