Several Betway Premiership sides experienced contrasting fortunes this weekend. TS Galaxy suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Marumo Gallants at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, while Kaizer Chiefs also fell 2-1 to Golden Arrows at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi, seemingly relishing his record against Chiefs, commented, “I have beaten Kaizer Chiefs four (three) times this season. This game could have been a different score line than it is suggested if my players took those missed chances."
Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi, on the other hand, apologised for his team dropping the ball once again.
“But my message [to the fans] is patience. We don’t have any solution now, but stay patient and continue to support the team, but I trust the fans of Kaizer Chiefs, they love the team too much," he said as per SABC Sport.
“I want patience, give me patience. I’m very sorry, honestly, I’m very sorry for the result. I am the first man with big frustration.”
Magesi’s resurgence continued with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch at the Seshego Stadium on Saturday, grabbing their fifth straight home win. Goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze also recorded his 11th clean sheet of the season.
Coach Owen Da Gama was delighted with the win, and credited his players for working hard to turn things around.
“We’ve really been working hard, you know the limitations you have and where it comes from, and getting out there from the bottom is like the load of the PSL is on top of you, every team just wants to trample on you,” said Da Gama.
“I spoke to the players and I said, ‘Guys, there’s only one way out now, it’s hard work.’ I’m telling you, there might be teams that are far better than us, but there are very few that work as hard as what we work."
Polokwane City ended their seven match winless run on Sunday, defeating Richards Bay 3-1 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
In other action, SuperSport United and Cape Town City played to a goalless draw in Andre Arendse’s first match as Matsatsantsa coach, with both teams still fighting to avoid relegation.
