Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha has praised Ademola Lookman in the wake of his African Player of the Year triumph at the CAF Awards.
The Super Eagles striker won the biggest prize on offer at the ceremony in Marrakesh, Morocco, this past weekend, thanks to a superb year for both Atalanta and the Nigerian men's national team.
The London-born player notably scored a hat-trick for 'La Dea' in their UEFA Europa League final triumph over Bayer Leverkusen, and netted six times for the Super Eagles through 2024.
Okocha praised the 27-year-old player for his attitude and professionalism: "The CAF Award is not just about how well you play on the pitch," the former Super Eagles captain told Soccer TV's YouTube channel, as per The Sun.
"Your attitude on the pitch, your reactions to fellow players, and your responses to coaches are all tested before we even talk about tactical performances.
"For Ademola Lookman to be awarded African Best Player of the Year, it simply means he has been examined on all these criteria and passed."
Former Bolton hero Okocha added, "Being dedicated to whatever you do and knowing the secret of your business is what makes you unique.
"Lookman is a unique African best Player of the Year, not just [an] African best. Go and verify what I'm saying – many are still testifying about him, and more will do so. His award is a reward for dedication and hard labour."
Lookman will hope to continue his form when he features for Atalanta in a Serie A match away to Lazio on Saturday 28 December.
