Pirates humbled, Chiefs regretful of throwing lead away

Orlando Pirates suffered their first loss of the season in the Betway Premiership, falling 1-0 at home to a determined Stellenbosch side.

Devin Titus gave the visitors the lead in the first half, and despite their efforts, the Buccaneers couldn't find an equalizer at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, where they have traditionally been well-supported by fans.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns moved back to the top of the league standings after a dominant 3-0 win over Sekhukhune United at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday evening.

In other Saturday matches, AmaZulu extended their recent good form with a 3-1 victory over Richards Bay FC in the KZN derby at the King Zwelithini Stadium.

Kaizer Chiefs let a two-goal advantage slip, settling for a 2-2 draw against Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium, while Chippa United secured a 2-0 win over Carling Knockout champions Magesi to earn all three points.

Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi was disappointed in his side's inability to hold onto their lead.

“I feel today [the match against Royal AM] is a lack of professionalism. We could have ended the first half 5-0 up… this game could have ended with us having eight goals but we didn’t convert the chances that we created,” the Tunisian said after the loss.

“Sometimes you don’t score because of ego… if you don’t respect football, football doesn’t respect you as well. We are very, very frustrated about the two points we have lost today because we controlled the game from the first to last minute."

“If you miss too many chances, you give confidence to the opponent," he added.

In other matches, Golden Arrows triumphed 3-2 over Cape Town City on Sunday afternoon at Mpumalanga Stadium, while Polokwane City came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy.
