Mohamed Salah has rejected an offer from Liverpool to renew his contract on significantly reduced wages, according to a report in his homeland.
The Egypt international’s future at Anfield remains uncertain as his current deal expires at the end of the season and there appears to be an impasse in negotiations with the Premier League club.
Egyptian media outlet Masrawy has claimed that Salah is seeking similar terms to what he’s on now for the next two to three years, although they Reds are hesitant to make such an offer given his age.
The Merseysiders have a strict policy when it comes to contract renewals for players over 30 and their talisman will be turning 33 in June.
One option would be giving Salah a one-year extension on equivalent wages and the other a longer stay, but would see him take a massive pay cut – neither of which he is keen on.
The three-time Golden Boot winner was on target in the 4-1 win over Ipswich on Saturday to keep him one goal clear of Erling Haaland at the top of the scoring charts.
