Arteta reveals Saka has had surgery for hamstring injury

Mikel Arteta has revealed this evening that Bukayo Saka has undergone surgery on the hamstring injury he sustained in the win over Crystal Palace last week.
Arsenal fans had already braced themselves for a significant absence, but the fact he’s gone under the knife adds another layer to the situation and is likely to see him miss around 12 weeks.
Speaking at his post-game press conference following the 1-0 win over Ipswich, the Arsenal boss said, “He had a procedure, everything went well. But unfortunately he will be out for many, many weeks.
“I think it will be more than two months. It depends… how the scar tissue starts to heal, the mobility of that.”
It’s terrible news for Saka and for Arsenal, and history tells us surgery on hamstrings can be complicated. Kieran Tierney suffered a torn hamstring playing for Scotland in the Euros in June, and only returned to fitness in December, while in 2013 Lukas Podolski missed three months with the same injury – and was plagued by similar problems afterwards.
It means, at the very least, Arsenal will need to be ultra-cautious with Saka and his rehabilitation, but the job of winning games without him will require others to step up in a big way.
Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
