Is it time for Arsenal Women captain, Kim Little, to hang up her boots?

I know that almost every Arsenal Women player impressed against Manchester United women, but there was one: Kim Little, whose performance caused some concern.

Looking at banter online, some Gunners are suggesting that Kim Little's influence is not as strong as it once was. Are Arsenal to initiating plans to replace Kim Little, with younger players such as Katherine Kuhl, Rosa Kafaji, and Kyra Cooney-Cross being considered potential replacements in the lineup?

However, the situation with Kim Little is more complex than simply replacing her; the league campaign hasn't even reached halfway. It is understandable she isn't as influential as she was when we looked to her for moments of magic, and for how incredible she was, it is easier to notice her drop in form.

While Little still possesses a great deal of tenacity and intent, her speed in transitions and distribution actions has decreased. That has given an advantage to teams that counterattack Arsenal with speed. The Arsenal midfield isn't at its best; most times you see the Arsenal midfielders and attackers track back to perform ball recoveries, which at times are unsuccessful.

I may face criticism for suggesting this, but it's high time we explore using Little as a #6 in a 4-1-2-3 formation, with one fullback inverting to midfield. Despite the need to manage her minutes, she could find purpose in defensive duties. Her experience could solidify Arsenal's defensive side of the game, allowing her to disrupt play and aid in distribution when playing out from the back.

With Little ahead of Leah Williamson, Lotte Wubben-Moy, and Laia Codina, whichever 2 start at central defense, they could form some sort of defensive pyramid that should insure Arsenal defensively. With this formation, the Arsenal fullbacks could easily overlap or invert to press their opponents.

That said, Kim Little's turns 35 next year; surely her time on the pitch is coming closer to the end. Let's enjoy her services while we still can.

What're your thoughts Gooners? Do you think it's time for Kim Little to hang up her boots?
