Journalist: After De Ligt, Bayern Munich "confident" about signing £7m Arsenal & Spurs target

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern Munich are now confident about signing Arsenal and Tottenham target Konrad Laimer.
What’s the story?
Well, after wrapping up a deal for Matthijs de Ligt, the German giants are now plotting a move for the Austria international, who is wanted by Mikel Arteta and Antonio Conte.
Romano believes Bayern Munich will soon make a new bid for Laimer, and have already agreed personal terms with the RB Leipzig midfielder.
The reliable Italian journalist adds that talks between the Bundesliga clubs started two months ago, and have now intensified following an injury to Leon Goretzka.
That will not be music to the ears of Arteta or Conte, as they may now need to explore other targets.
Steven Gerrard will also – presumably – be upset by the news, as it was said that he hoped to bring Laimer to Aston Villa this summer.
The 25-year-old’s contract with RB Leipzig expires next summer, so the German side are likely to lose their No.27 for nothing if they fail to sell him this summer.
Interest in Laimer – who RB Leipzig paid £7m for – comes after he made 42 appearances in all competitions last season, scoring five goals while also providing six assists.
Laimer should think twice about choosing Bayern Munich over Arsenal or Tottenham
In our view, Laimer should think hard about a move to the Allianz Arena – just look at Marcel Sabitzer.
Both Arsenal and Tottenham tried to sign Laimer’s fellow Austrian in 2021, only to lose out to Bayern Munich.
However, Sabitzer went on to make just eight starts in the Bundesliga last season, going from a key man at RB Leipzig to a fringe player under Julian Nagelsmann.
The same could very easily happen to Laimer, given the depth of talent at Bayern Munich, so we believe he should consider his next step very carefully indeed.
