Three days ago, Mundo Deportivo stated Clément Lenglet will have a meeting with Aston Villa director Monchi and Unai Emery to discuss his future at Aston Villa, before assessing other options.

The Villans signed the defender on a dry loan deal from Barcelona last summer and it was stated that he has no future at the Camp Nou next season.

Prior to joining Aston Villa, the 28-year-old turned down the option to make a switch to Saudi Arabia.

Monday's edition of Sport states Lenglet knows about interest from the Middle East, but he has again ruled out moving to Saudi. The centre-back's desire is to stay in Europe and it's possible for him to extend his stay at Villa Park.

The Premier League side are 'quite satisfied' with performances and are pleased with the great professionalism and work ethic he’s shown in recent months.

Lenglet has made 24 appearances for Emery's side this season, which includes two games since the start of April. Despite losing prominence in recent weeks, Sport state the Villans' leaders and coaching staff are pleased with him.

Therefore, it's not yet ruled out for Aston Villa to request Barcelona for another loan deal. The Frenchman's deal lasts until 2026 and his wages at the Camp Nou are currently a problem for the English club.

Emery’s side will have to hold talks to find out if there’s any possibility for Lenglet to lower his salary. It must be remembered that a chunk of that salary is Barcelona wages he deferred during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
