The 35 year old has had her interim tag removed.
Renée Slegers has been appointed the Head Coach of Arsenal Women. Slegers, 35, was the interim head coach following Jonas Eidevall's resignation in October. As interim head coach, Arsenal have been unbeaten, having won ten of eleven games under Slegers and finished top of their Champions League group.
Slegers, a former Netherlands' international, has been praised by the players for restoring confidence to a team that had been stuttering. Since becoming interim head coach, Alessia Russo has blossomed upfront, and Arsenal have largely made up the ground from a so-so start to the season, with the Gunners level on points with Manchester United and a point behind Manchester City, who are second.
Slegers previously managed FC Rosengård in Sweden, where she won two Damallsvenskan titles. Ironically enough, she succeeded Eidevall at Rosengård when he left for Arsenal in the summer of 2021. Slegers will now be tasked with overseeing Arsenal's future, with some key players out of contract at the end of the season and other core players reaching an older age.
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Slegers said, "I'm so excited to be continuing our journey together. It's a wonderful honour to represent this club as head coach and I have so much belief in what we can all achieve together."
Head of Women's Football Clare Wheateley said, "We have undertaken a thorough recruitment process aimed at identifying the best candidate to lead our women's first team at this exciting time. Renée was the stand-out candidate throughout the process and we're thrilled to be continuing our journey with her as our permanent head coach."
Co-Chair Josh Kroenke said, ""We've all been incredibly impressed by the way Renée has led the team since October, nurturing a great collective spirit across the group and instilling belief in what we do and what we want to achieve – to win trophies and drive women's football forward together."
