Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as a leading candidate to bolster Arsenal's attack in the upcoming transfer window.

According to The Athletic, the Gunners “are developing a strong interest” in the 26-year-old Sweden international, who has scored an astonishing 85 goals in 92 games for Sporting Lisbon.

Gyokeres joined Sporting from Coventry City in 2023 and has a €100 million buyout clause, though reports suggest he could be available for significantly less.

With Gabriel Jesus sidelined by a long-term injury, it’s no secret that Arsenal are in the market for a striker. Newcastle's Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko have also been linked, though prising Isak away from St James' Park would likely require an astronomical fee. The Gunners also made an unsuccessful move for Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins in January.

Gyokeres was first spotted by Brighton, who signed him from Swedish side Brommapojkarna in 2018. However, he struggled to make an impact at the Amex and was loaned out to St Pauli, Swansea, and Coventry before joining the Sky Blues permanently.

His 41 goals and 17 assists in 111 Championship appearances convinced Sporting to pay €24 million – an investment that has paid off handsomely. Gyokeres fired them to the Primeira Liga title last season, and they are currently sitting at the top of the table again.

Whether Arsenal act on their interest remains to be seen, but the timing of this report is notable, coming just hours after the club confirmed the appointment of Italian Andrea Berta as sporting director.
