Flamengo have been eyeing a move for Arsenal’s Jorginho in the winter market.
On January 14th, we covered claims from Brazil which stated the midfielder had spoken to Flamengo manager Filipe Luís.
It was also suggested Arsenal could let him leave for free in this window as his contract expires at the end of this season. Of course, that didn’t take into account the year option the Premier League club have.
The Brazilian club are working behind the scenes to try and sign Jorginho and journalist Venê Casagrande provides the latest.
He took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to state that Flamengo have ‘taken another step’ to acquire the 33-year-old’s signature. Casagrande claims they had a meeting with the player’s agents on Wednesday.
After this meeting, the South American club now believe the ‘path is easier’ between the two parties. This indicates Flamengo seem optimistic about a salary agreement.
Last week, the former Napoli man said he wants to keep all doors open when specifically asked about the potential move to Brazil.
Flamengo have ample time to sign Jorginho, who made 20 appearances for Arsenal this season. The transfer window in England closes on Monday while it’s open until February 28th in Brazil.
Confidence has repeatedly risen in Brazil about Jorginho returning, only for it then to wobble when faced with the Arsenal reality.
