Matty Cash has broken his silence on the injury he picked up during Aston Villa’s win over Celtic on Wednesday, saying: ‘I'll Be back Stronger.’

The 27-year-old started the crucial Champions League game at right-back and was very lively as Villa took an early 2-0 lead through two strikes from Morgan Rogers.

Unai Emery’s side went on to win the game 4-2 and book their spot in the last 16 of the Champions League, but Cash ended up missing the majority of the match.

The Poland international went down after just 30 minutes and limped out of the contest, replaced by John McGinn, seemingly suffering a calf issue.

Emery did not provide an update on the full-back after the match, with Cash not offering any detail either, but his words suggested he is set for a spell on the sidelines.

Posting on social media, Cash wrote: ‘Champions League Qualification, Great night at Villa park, I'll Be back Stronger 💜💜.’

Cash will join the likes of Pau Torres, Tyrone Mings and Amadou Onana on the injured list at Villa Park.

After Cash was taken off, Celtic quickly hit back and were level at 2-2 by the 38th minute thanks to a brace from Adam Idah.

However, Ollie Watkins put the home team back in front on the hour-mark and Rogers completed his hat-trick in injury time.

Emery is delighted with his team’s efforts to qualify for the Champions League last season and make an impressive return to Europe’s top table this campaign.

‘We are very proud of our work, of our way in the Champions League this year, of our work last year in getting here,’ said the Spaniard.

‘There are a lot of strong teams to be favourites to be a contender. It is very important how we are here and how we started in this way. Now we enjoy the way, today was a fantastic day.

‘The atmosphere was fantastic, it was a very good match. In 90 minutes more or less we played a brilliant match.’

Villa’s win on Wednesday night meant they have avoided a Champions League play-off, so their schedule is not as busy as it could be, but there is till plenty of football to come, starting at Wolves on Saturday in the Premier League.

They expect to still have Watkins available after rejecting a bid from Arsenal, although Jhon Duran is due to complete a move to Al-Nassr.
