Ashley Barnes has been charged by the FA for calling Blackburn Rovers ‘b*******’. The Burnley striker used the crude word for their local rivals after their 3-0 win, in which he scored, earlier in the month. Barnes scored twice against Blackburn in a 3-0 Championship win earlier in NovemberGetty It meant a lot to him and made it clear in his post-match interview but has been punished for his crude languageGetty It was clear to see after the match that the 33-year-old was happy to get one over their main rivals, so much so that when he spoke to a reporter he said: “Every goal is special but to score against the b******* there is amazing.” However, Barnes is now in trouble with English football’s governing body for his choice of words. In a statement, the FA said: “Ashley Barnes has been charged with breaching FA Rule E3.1 during an interview that took place after Burnley FC’s game against Blackburn Rovers FC on Sunday 13 November 2022. “The forward’s comments allegedly constitute improper conduct in that they are improper and/or bring the game into disrepute and/or use abusive and/or insulting words. “Ashley Barnes has until Friday 2 December 2022 to provide a response.” Barnes netted twice at Turf Moor, with his goals and Anass Zaroury’s strike earning them a victory that saw them return to the top of the Championship. The fixture between them and Blackburn was the first since 2017, with the Clarets now unbeaten in eight matches against Rovers. They will meet once again in March for the reverse fixture at Ewood Park, and by that time Burnley will have a better understanding of their promotion prospects. Barnes could very well find the back of the net against them once again, but will be keen to use less explicit language next time round should he speak to the media after the match.
