Cullen in star showing at Stoke

Josh Cullen turned in arguably his best performance for the Clarets last Saturday in the 2-0 win at Stoke and it won him both our man of the match and player ratings.

He was very much a clear winner for the man of the match, polling 62% of the vote. No other player reached double figures but the trusted centre back pairing of Maxime Estève and CJ Egan-Riley jointly claimed second place with 6% each while just behind them with 5% of the vote was Jay Rodriguez who finished fourth.

Cullen led the way in the player ratings too on a day when every single player passing seven out of ten for a good performance, the first time we've had that this season. Cullen rated 8.48 out of ten and again the two defenders were right behind. Egan-Riley was second with 8.19 while Estève came third with 8.00. James Trafford, who made that one big save just before half time in an assured performance, was fourth with a rating of 7.52 out of ten.

That's a maximum ten points for Cullen towards the Up the Clarets Player of the Year with six points for Egan-Riley and five for Estève. Both Rodriguez and Trafford won one point.

The game at Stoke was our sixth game in November, a month that started with the disappointing performance at Millwall and ended with four successive wins. Our player of the month, with an astonishing 45 points, was Egan-Riley while the August and October winner Estève was second with 28 points.

The five collected in this game has taken Estève to one hundred points for the season and he retains a lead of 28 points over Egan-Riley. Cullen has moved up into fifth place but there is a big gap between the two central defenders and everyone else.
