Kitchen has the Ewood whistle

It’s a fixture that is often given to a Select Group referee but tomorrow’s game at Blackburn is in the hands of the relatively inexperienced Andrew Kitchen.
I took a look back at the referees who have taken this fixture since the home game in 2012 and it is a list of past and present top flight referees including Craig Pawson and Mike Dean who refereed the two games in the 2013/14 promotion season.
Last time it was Tim Robinson at Ewood while David Coote was marking the white lines for free kicks at Turf Moor.
That's included two of our home games against QPR and Middlesbrough which have given him a RATE THE REF rating of 60.18 out of a hundred. He refereed four Blackburn games last season but this is his first in 2024/25.
His total number of games this season is fifteen in which there have been sixty yellow cards and just the one red card. Of the yellows, 27 have gone to home team players and 33 to away team players. The one player he's sent off this season is Plymouth's Ibrahim Cissoko at Cardiff. It came just before half time with Plymouth trailing 2-0; they eventually lost the game 5-0.
Kitchen's most recent game was Coventry's 0-0 home draw against Millwall last Sunday. Millwall's Casper De Norre was the one player yellow carded.
The fourth official tomorrow is the vastly more experienced Steve Martin who refereed our game at Sunderland earlier in the season when both teams had three players yellow carded and home captain Dan Neil then seeing red after picking up a second yellow.
