Langford will referee at Stoke

Our Championship game tomorrow will be refereed by West Midlands official Oliver Langford who will be taking charge of a Burnley game for the eleventh time.

The first of the ten to date came at Doncaster in the 2010/11 season, the night Charlie Austin made his Burnley debut. We were really poor that night, losing the game 1-0, and Langford didn't help with what was a shocking performance.

He also had a dreadful game almost two years ago when he refereed our 2-1 win at Swansea in our first game of 2023. He has had some decent games but he's currently down at third from bottom in RATE THE REF with a rating of just 53.10 out of a hundred.

Langford is a very experienced referee having moved into the Football League back in 2008, kicking off with a League Two game between Rochdale and Barnet at Spotland. Just over a year later he refereed in the Championship for the first time; that was a 1-1 draw between QPR and Peterborough at Loftus Road, a match in which former Claret George Boyd was in the Peterborough team.

Now a Select Group 2 official, ten of his eleven games this season have come in the Championship with the one other in the League Cup. There have been 42 yellow cards in those games with 16 going to home team players and 26 to away team players. The last player he sent off was Stoke's Ben Pearson in their 1-0 defeat at Leeds in March this year.

Langford's most recent game was that between Hull and Sheffield Wednesday three days ago. Unlike home manager Tim Walter, he has survived after a game that saw him show four yellow cards, to Hull's Charlie Hughes and Gustavo Puerta and Sheffield Wednesday pair Di'Shon Bernard and Ike Ugbo.

Sam Allison was the fourth official for our recent home game against Swansea and he's back on duty at Stoke in the same capacity. Like Langford, he referees mainly in the Championship but has had two Premier League games this season. He is still to referee a Burnley game.
