James Linington, from the Isle of Wight, will referee our game against Watford tomorrow. It will be his tenth Burnley game but only his second at the Turf.

It started with our 3-0 defeat at Watford in the 2008/09 season while his most recent Burnley game was this season's 0-0 draw at Oxford, but the only one of our home games he's previously refereed was the 1-0 win against Ipswich which brought the 2013/14 home programme to an end.

The 2008/09 season was his first in the league, and it started with a League Two game between Wycombe and Morecambe. Our game at Watford was his first at Championship level and his only one that season.

He started to get more Championship in the following season and is now very much permanent there as a Select Group 2 official.

This season he's refereed just ten games with seven in the Championship, two in League One and one in the League Cup. There have been 44 yellow cards with 18 of those going to home team players and 26 to away team players. He's only shown the one red card since February 2023 and that was given to Stoke's Enda Stevens in a 4-2 defeat at QPR in November last year.

Linington's most recent game was Preston's 2-0 win at Cardiff a week last Wednesday. There were as many as seven yellow cards in that game. Cardiff had both Perry Ng and Joe Ralls carded alongside five from Preston who were Mads Frøkjær-Jensen, Sam Greenwood, Ali McCann, Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Milutin Osmajić.

The fourth official tomorrow is Bobby Madley who has refereed two Burnley games this season, the home game against Plymouth and the away game at Stoke.
