David Webb will referee tomorrow’s game at Portsmouth and this will be his third Burnley game this season and his fourteenth overall.

He refereed the reverse fixture back in September when he had a shocking game. He was back for the Swansea game when he was much improved, but overall his Burnley games have been somewhat mixed with him currently on a RATE THE REF rating of 57.83 out of a hundred.

The experienced Lancashire based official is now in his seventeenth season as a Football League referee with his first Championship fixture coming in his second season when he took charge of what would now be an unlikely fixture between Nottingham Forest and Scunthorpe.

His recent record suggests, although there have been four in each of his two Burnley games this season, that there won’t be too many yellow cards. In his nineteen games this season, all of which have been in the Championship other than one each in the two cup competitions, have seen him show just 48 yellow cards of which 22 have gone to home team players and 26 to away team players. He hasn’t sent off any players this season; his last red card was shown to QPR goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in stoppage time at the end of their 1-0 defeat at Leeds in October 2023.

Webb’s most recent game was the 2-2 draw between Millwall and Cardiff a week last Tuesday. For the fourth time this season he had a card free game.

The fourth official tomorrow is Carl Brook who has been a Football League referee since the start of the 2020/21 season. He hasn’t refereed a Burnley game and he’s still to referee above League One level.
