Blackburn Rovers head of football Rudy Gestede confirmed a number of positions they will be out to strengthen this summer, and among them is striker.

Blackburn Rovers are heading for a busy summer transfer window. They are preparing to back Valerien Ismael with a number of his own signings.

Managers have had to settle with a shoestring budget at Ewood Park over the years, and despite sizeable profits made on big assets like Adam Wharton, that looks set to be the case again this summer. Nonetheless, head of football operations Rudy Gestede has made it clear the positions Rovers are keen to strengthen, and the centre-forward is one.

As quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph, he said this earlier in April:

“We want some power up front to challenge the two strikers we have, we will do some business.”

With that in mind, we put forward three strikers Blackburn Rovers should have on their radar this summer…

Ricky-Jade Jones – Peterborough United

If Blackburn Rovers want something a little different to current strikers Makhtar Gueye and Yuki Ohashi, they should be among the numerous clubs expected to be targeting Peterborough United forward Ricky-Jade Jones this summer.

Blessed with electric pace, Jones is a powerful figure with the ball at his feet but is also dangerous when freed to run in behind, be it off the shoulder of the centre-backs or into wider areas. He can play on the wing too, offering some valuable versatility.

He would be a physical profile that Rovers could develop into a real gem and given how his end product has progressed, his upwardly trajectory makes for good reading. His expiring contract means he will only cost a training compensation fee likely to be below market value too.

Jusef Erabi – Hammarby

The next player is someone who might not come cheap, which will likely not appeal to the Blackburn Rovers. However, if they want to reinvest the money made by big player sales, Jusef Erabi could be an intriguing target.

The 21-year-old already has four goals in eight games for Hammarby IF this season, taking his tally for the club to 26 goals in 80 games despite his youth. He’s a well-rounded forward with a good amount of senior experience and he has the physical profile and power to manage a step up to Championship level.

Erabi is out of contract at the end of next year, so he might be someone Rovers can sign for slightly cheaper than initially thought.

Who plays at Elland Road?

Victor Edvardsen – Go Ahead Eagles

Last but not least is Victor Edvardsen, who is an older option than Jones and Erabi but with that comes valuable experience and a proven goalscoring record.

29-year-old Edvardsen has nine goals and six assists to his name in 35 games for Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles this season. Be it as a lone forward or second striker, his physical attributes have made him a handful in the Eredivisie after previously impressing in his native Sweden.

Blackburn Rovers should be intrigued by Edvardsen’s proven record in a strong league and as he enters the last year of his contract, he might not break the bank. With success and a contract running down comes rival interest though.
